DMU and Learning disability week

Forever Savvy was honoured to be invited as delegates to the De Montfort University Learning Disabilities insight day on 17th June 2014

To enable student nurses to gain an insight to learning disabilities De Montfort University adopted the theme for the "National Learning Disability Week (Mencap #LD2014) – “celebrating people overcoming adversity, and people's prejudice and ignorance to experience their incredible firsts”. (http://www.mencap.org.uk/get-involved/learning-disability-week )

Forever Savvy along with other innovative organisations displayed their work focused on the ‘therapeutic’ elements of Forever Savvy, this included photographs and ‘stories’ from the people who train at Forever Savvy.

During the afternoon activites Amanda Phelps and Angie Stokes shared their  ‘journeys’ as a parents of children with Learning Disabilities and how this led to the set up of Forever Savvy to provide opportunities, over two sessions. The sessions were packed and consisted of an audience of nursing students interested in  health and wellbeing of this community.

Forever Savvy would like to congratulate De Monfort University for their insight in preparing the health care professionals of the future and inviting us to be part of that journey.
