Generous donation - Flicker joins the team

Leicestershire based ‘Forever Savvy’ is celebrating receiving a very generation donation from Vikki & Martin Meakins of Video Analysis Solutions which means adults with learning disabilities who train at the project have a new pony to work with.

Based in Thurlaston, Forever Savvy, was established in 2011 to help young adults learn new transferable skills for transition into adulthood and ultimately the work place. Trainees, who attend, experience a healthy outdoor learning programme including a broad range of life skills such as land management, animal welfare, gardening and wood work.

Vikki Meakins of VAS approached Forever Savvy in November 2013 with the idea of introducing a young pony to the farm for our trainees to experience the Parelli natural horsemanship journey from the very start of its training. Vikki’s own 3 year old pony “Dusty Fox Flicker” joined the project in December 2013, on working livery to learn how to live safely in a human world, becoming a great partner for people of all abilities.

Trainees at Forever Savvy have been involved in training Flicker learn how to behave well on the ground, teaching her how to behave with the farrier, vet and equine dentist also how to be lead safely, how to stand still and be polite whilst being groomed.

In September 2014 Vikki was so impressed with Flickers new skills that she felt that both Forever Savvy and Flicker would benefit from a long term partnership and very generously donated the pony to Forever Savvy.

Amanda Phelps, founder of Forever Savvy said we are very proud of how much the trainees have learned from Flicker and understand what a huge decision it is for Vikki to make the donation. We are very excited to have Flicker as a permanent member of the team and are looking forward to teaching her many new things as she progresses through the Parelli natural horsemanship programme.
